For Immediate Release:
Formula D Round 2
Road Atlanta, GA
May 9th, 2009
Road Atlanta served as the battle ground for Round Two of the Formula
Drift 2009 series. A beautiful track with a high speed entry and a
tight section through the horseshoe, the drivers put on a spectacular
show on what fans say was one of the best events ever.
Formula DRIFT announced a Comprehensive TV deal with network Versus to
air the seven-stop Championship series over 14 Sundays starting August
30, 2009 at 2pm EST/ 11am PST. 75 million U.S homes will be able to
enjoy the action in Hi-Def with each episode re-playing the week
following the initial airing.
With a strong start to the season, Team Dynamic Autosports is pushing
hard for a top 3 finish overall this championship year with the Hankook
/ Dynamic 350z and driver Robbie Nishida.
Robbie was looking good in practice all week and qualified 11th for the
main event on Saturday. In the Top 32 round, Robbie Nishida in the
Hankook/Dynamic 350Z made quick work of Drift Alliance's Brian Wilkerson
who was piloting a S13.
Top 16 pitted Robbie against 2005 Formula Drift Champion Rhys Millen in
the new Hyundai Powered Genesis Coupe. After a close first run, Nishida
creates a large gap leaving Millen in the dust! Robbie advances it into
the Great 8 without breaking a sweat.
The Top 8 Battle pitted Robbie against Darren McNamara in his V8 Powered
Saturn Sky. Robbie gave chase in the 1st run pushing aggressively and
spun out awarding Darren the win. The team was a little disappointed as
we were expecting a podium, but overall Team Dynamic Autosports was
pleased with the results. Robbie is now placed comfortably in 6th place
overall. With some time before the next event, and a few adjustments
expect Robbie to be on the top of the podium come Round 3 in New Jersey.
Ryuji Miki in the Apexi / Hankook Tire Mazda Rx-7 advanced to the Top 16
round with a great qualifying run and a win in the Top 32 against John
Wagner in the Maxxis Tires 240sx. Miki went up against Tyler McQuarrie
in the Top 16 and in the lead run they were evenly matched. Miki
follows in the chase run, but put two wheels in the dirt in the
horseshoe which automatically gave Tyler the advance.
Eric O' Sullivan in the Rockstar Energy Drink / Hankook Tire Subaru Sti
didn't make it into the Top 32 for the main show. Unfortunately we
still have new car issues and new driver issues. Eric is still getting
adjusted to the left hand drive. He is progressing quickly and the car
is making more horsepower but some Handbrake issues at the last minute
made it difficult to qualify without it. We are expecting some great
results from Eric in New Jersey!
On the lighter side, the Rockstar Energy Drink / Hankook Tire Subaru Sti
does have a photoshoot scheduled with D-Sport magazine on Tuesday for
the cover with model Kathy Gardiner.
Updates will be released when this issue hits newsstands.
